Safety Around the Automobile

If the correct precautions are not taken, working on automobiles can be dangerous. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) publish information and create regulations to help keep you safe and to protect the environment. In a school lab, in your garage, or at an automotive repair facility you need to be aware of people and your surroundings at all times. People are hurt each year through carelessness. This course provides information necessary to safely work on the automobile. When safety precautions are followed, working on the automobile can be a rewarding experience. Safety glasses, eyewash stations, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) are some of the items that should be available in an automotive work area. This course will help you describe and identify shop hazards, interpret safety data sheets, choose appropriate personal protective equipment, and safely use auto shop tools and equipment.
