Internet of Things (IoT)
The auto industry is racing toward both opportunities and challenges as it becomes part of the IoT. IoT is a network of billions of smart devices and machines with computer chips and sensors that communicate with each other (Figure 22.2). Legacy vehicle architecture (more than a century old) is reaching limits in the IoT world. Consumers want vehicles that can evolve to meet their needs, shifting from products to services and experiences. Automakers must transition from isolated industries into connected ecosystems.
